It's in the eyes

Posted by
Nick Edens (Toledo, United States) on 7 December 2007 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

Some of the kids on that Monday morning were really wanting their photo taken. They would ham it up for the camera and everything. But then others like this little girl were just doing their daily thing. I don't think she was really awake yet when I took this. I really love the look on her face.

Technically to me good portraits have a large part to do with the eyes. Either where the eyes are looking (leading you through the photo) or the expression in them. Catchlights play a very important role in this. Without the catchlights this shot would look very lifeless.

These children in the photos are in need of many things. If you are interested in helping or would just like more info please leave a comment to that effect and I will get back to you or email me at nedens @ gmail.com (be sure to remove the space before and after the @). Children in the free school can be sponsored for $25 a month which gets them 1 good meal a day (for some the only meal they will eat), a uniform, and school supplies. So as you all take a look at this series please consider helping.
